About Our Practice
The practice of Drs. Farkas, Kassalow and Resnick was founded in 1958 as a specialty office limited to contact lens care. In its over forty years in existence, a national and even international reputation for excellence has developed in not just the contact lens field, but in general eyecare and laser vision correction as well. We continue to strive to make eyecare a comfortable and enjoyable professional experience.

Barry Farkas, OD
Dr. Barry Farkas received his Doctorate of Optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1971, where he is currently a trustee. With his partners, he maintains one of the largest contact lens specialty practices in the United States. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a Diplomate of its Cornea and Contact Lens Section. He is also a member of the American Optometric Association and the American Optometric Foundation. Dr. Farkas has authored numerous articles in professional journals and has delivered over one hundred invited lectures both nationally and internationally.

Jordan Kassalow, OD
Dr. Jordan Kassalow received his Doctorate from the New England College of Optometry in 1988. Along with his specialty training in contact lenses, Dr. Kassalow has a strong interest in primary care and public health. To this end he completed a Master Degree in Public Health and a Fellowship in Preventive Ophthalmology at the Johns Hopkins Schools of Public Health and Medicine. Dr. Kassalow is Director of the River Blindness programs at Helen Keller International. He is also a consultant to the World Health Organization and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Susan Resnick, OD
Dr. Susan Resnick received her Doctorate of Optometry from the New York State College of Optometry in 1983. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a Diplomate of its Cornea and Contact Lens Section. She is also a member of the American Optometric Association and the Nassau County Optometric Society. In addition to her contact lens specialty, Dr. Resnick maintains a strong interest and participation in primary optometric care including binocular vision assessment and pediatric examinations.

1974
Part of the team in the development and introduction of the first thin soft contact lens in the world (designed both for daily and overnight use.)
1978
Clinical investigators for the first gas permeable rigid contact lens in the United States.
1983
Part of the team that developed and introduced the first extended wear gas permeable rigid contact lens in the United States.
1984
Consulted in the introduction and development of the first silicon rubber and resin contact lenses. Clinical investigators for the first astigmatic soft contact lenses in the United States. Part of the team that developed and introduced the first multi-focal gas permeable contact lens in the United States.
1987
Part of the team that developed and introduced disposable contact lenses in the United States, now known as the Acuvue lens.
1991
Part of the team that developed and introduced the first contact lens designed for one day usage and disposal, now known as the 1 DAY ACUVUE lens.
1995
Following rigorous didactic and clinical training the Toronto, Canada, introduced the Laser Vision Correction option to our patients in the areas around including New York City and Long Island.
1996
Clinical investigators for the first generation of ultra high oxygen permeable soft contact lenses in the United States. Part of the team that developed and introduced the first disposable bifocal contact lens in the world, now known as the ACUVUE BIFOCAL.
Charter members of the TLC LASER CENTERS in Manhattan and Garden City, Long Island.
1997
Clinical investigators (FDA study) of the first Ultra Gas Permeable Soft Contact Lens eventually to become the first 30 Day Extended Wear Lens without removal.
1999 to Present
Consultants in the development and introduction of the Ultravue Bifocal Contact Lens currently known as the Frequency Multifocal as licensed by CooperVision.
Professional Advisory Board members of TLC LASER CENTERS in Manhattan and Garden City, Long Island.
2002
Among the first specialty cornea and contact lens practices to introduce Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT). This technology employs custom fitted highly oxygen permeable rigid lenses worn only at night. This non-surgical reversible vision correction procedure allows patients to enjoy freedom from spectacles during waking hours.
